Businesses will have to wait until February to learn whether a Senate committee will recommend the banning of large cash payments – but companies' use of cash will remain in the Australian Taxation Office's sights regardless of whether the rules come into force.
The Senate economics committee is currently considering final submissions on the Restrictions on the Use of Cash Bill, which passed the House of Representatives last month and would outlaw cash payments between individuals and businesses of more than $10,000.
