Employers will be able to use a new visa scheme to import highly skilled foreign workers from July, under a trial that will partially replace the popular-but-much-criticised 457 temporary skilled shortage visa that ended on Sunday.
An open-ended number of visas will be issued through the Global Talent Scheme for technology, science and engineering businesses, and other companies that generate at least $4 million a year in revenue, or are listed on the share market, and are prepared to pay staff more than $180,000 a year.
