Scott Morrison will use the government’s improved budget position to cut taxes for both individuals and small business, seeking to sharpen the Coalition’s contrast with Labor.
A generous small business tax package will be launched ahead of next year’s election and is expected to include enhanced investment allowances and bring forward tax cuts originally intended to have been implemented from 2024 onwards. The government will also enhance the personal income tax cuts announced in this year’s budget to at least match the short-term gains promised by Bill Shorten in the Labor leader’s budget reply.
