The audit sector has received a vote of confidence from users of financial statements, with new research finding 60 per cent of surveyed professional investors said audit quality was "above average".
The as-yet unpublished survey by the Financial Reporting Council, a body responsible for oversight of accounting standards, also found another 33 per cent of the 47 surveyed investors felt audit quality was "average" with only 7 per cent saying quality was "below average" or "poor".
