The Labor opposition has ruled out a proposal to tax the sale of high-end family homes, saying they will remain exempt from capital gains tax if Labor takes office.
The government has been asked to consider the proposal in its forthcoming tax white paper. The Australia Institute has suggested restricting the capital gains exemption to homes worth less than $2 million.
