The Tax Office has begun rolling out online services for agents in public beta, with all tax and BAS agents expected to have access by 31 March 2019.
Online services is the new system agents will use to access services they currently use in the tax and BAS agent portals, the ATO said.
The rollout will occur gradually from mid-January with all tax and BAS agents expected to have access by the end of March 2019.
“We will send an email to your practice to let you know when your practice has access to the new system, and provide instructions for what you need to do,” the ATO explained.
It noted it may decide to stop the gradual rollout and provide all agents with access to the system before the end of March.
The new online services system was initially planned to be released in the first quarter of 2017, but was delayed due to technical issues.
It has been described as a modern version of the portal, with a dashboard and a more modern feel.
“They (tax and BAS agents) will be happy to use the new services as long as stability is assured; that will keep a lot of the profession happy. Stability is not a lot to ask,” the Institute of Public Accountants’ Tony Greco told Accountants Daily earlier.
