The Tax Office has defended its use of amended assessments in the small business space, despite noting that its auditors get “about 1,000” cases wrong each year.
Facing a Senate estimates hearing, ATO second commissioner Jeremy Hirschhorn said the agency conducts around 130,000 reviews of small businesses each year, before it issues amended assessments to 68,000 cases.
