The Australian Taxation Office has issued bills totalling $2.9 billion to seven large companies, but if history is any guide, it is likely to get only half that amount.
Apple, Google, Microsoft, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Crown, Chevron and Singtel Optus are among those named during evidence at the Senate inquiries or in ASX statements as being audited by the ATO, and are fighting tax bills. It is unclear which ones are being included in the $2.9 million figure.
