Xero enters smartwatch space

Cloud accounting software provider Xero has hit the emerging smartwatch market, with the launch of the Xero for Apple Watch app.

The decision to enter the smartwatch space stems from the company's acknowledgement of the time pressures placed upon small business, with Xero claiming an ever-growing need to access business tools at any hour.

Integrated within the app is the ability to view transactions, receive notifications when invoices and bills have been paid, and to access accounts across multiple banks.

“More small business owners will be updated on the go, with financial information and banking notifications available at a tap or a glance – they can see when banking lines have arrived, reconcile and move on, anytime, anywhere,” noted Xero mobile product manager Luke Gumbley.

Mr Gumbley added that with over 70 per cent of Xero users already accessing their accounts via the Xero app on iPhone and iPad, the transition to the smartwatch environment was a natural progression.

Xero CEO Rod Drury declared that the next step in cloud accounting was now at the fingertips of Xero customers.

“We’re turning consumer technology into a vital tool for business owners, connecting them to the pulse of their business and allowing them to be more responsive to their customers,” Mr Drury said.

In addition to the launch of a new app, 3D Touch capability has also been added for the Xero app on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, allowing users to create new invoices and receipts on the go.
